The Minimum Wages Act, 1948

This act provides for fixing minimum rates of wages in certain employment. Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi has already notified rates of Minimum Wages in 29 scheduled employments. However DA based on CPIM is released time in your (Feb/Aug) to compensate the week inflate rate.

Enforcement of the Act :

The inspectorate staff of the Labour Department takes action on complaints received from workmen/Unions, Suo moto action can also be taken. For violation of the provisions of Section 19(iv) of the Minimum Wages Act, the Inspectors can file a complaint before the area Metropolitan Magistrate.

All the inspectors in the Department enforce the Act in the respective territorial jurisdictions assigned to them under the administrative control of respective Labour Officer/Assistant Labour Commissioners/Deputy Labour Commissioners. The penalty for violation of is fine of R.500/- or imprisonment up to a period of six months or both.
